No Frills Networking are proud to support the West Midland Disability Swimming Squad as our club charity.

The West Midland Disability Swimming Squad enables elite disabled swimmers to train and compete together.

The squad competes successfully at National Championships, winning many medals and holding many British records.  Some members have competed at World Championship and Paralympic level and some are World Record holders.  Three members of the squad competed in the Beijing Paralympics in 2008. Four swimmers competed successfully in the World Championships held in Eindhoven in August 2010.

There are hopes that more will represent the region in London 2012, and in future World and Paralympic Championships. The squad provides an opportunity, also, for younger swimmers to compete at National events.  Often, these swimmers are the only Disabled swimmers in their club and the squad affords them the opportunity to train with other Disability swimmers.  There is great hope that these young swimmers will progress to represent the region in future World Championships and Paralympics.

We need to increase the training opportunities for our younger swimmers.  Our aim is to have weekly training sessions with one session a month in a 50-metre pool.  The three-year budget leading up to 2012 is £85,000.  We don’t receive funding and rely on the generosity of our swimmers’ families and fundraisers to allow us ensure that these swimmers achieve their full potential.

We were granted Charity status in 2010 – number 1137715 - For further information about the club, please visit our website http://www.wmdss.org.uk
